Practice points
- Move the hand, rather than the fingers. Press keys by positioning the finger above the key (by moving the hand), pointing slightly towards the key, and then lightly dropping the hand on the key and raising it, like delicately hammering a nail
- At first, move the hand, if needed, press one key, then move back so that the index fingers are above f and j.
- Use music with an obvious pulse (pop or dance), and move in time with the music: on one beat, move your hand, on the second, press the key.
- Try to move directly downwards to press a key, and then lift the hand so as to position it where it needs to be for the next keystroke. At first, press one key and then return the index finger to f or j, for left and right respectively.
- Finally, and importantly:Go as slowly as needed not to make mistakes (though you will make them, so don't beat yourself up). Study each and every detail of each and every keypress until they become relaxed, intuitive and natural. Mastery of the basics gives a foundation for all else to build upon.
Escape:skip to next line, Enter:redo current line, Tab:skip spaces, and return here
by pressing Ctrl+x.
It is a simple practice program, and you have to press the keys
one after another. That is it.
